The indefinite has other exclusive expressions to indicate a specific action in the past: last month, last year, last week, yesterday. For this use we have expressions like: this month, this week, today, a moment ago … All these expressions are exclusive of the perfect one and also the action is more specific in time. We remember that the perfect has two uses: to express a past moment not specific and also a past moment very close to the present.
